Minister Yandri Urges Land Productivity in Majene to Form Thematic Villages

JAKARTA – The Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (Mendes PDT), Yandri Susanto, is encouraging land productivity in villages to be transformed into Thematic Villages. These villages focus on local characteristics—such as agriculture and fisheries—to cultivate superior village potential.
According to the Minister, this is vital as it transforms villages into productive economic actors through Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDesa). This shift aims to improve resident welfare and create new employment opportunities within rural areas.
"Villages in Majene Regency must not merely be spectators to President Prabowo's priority programs, such as the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. Create Thematic Villages; map out the potential of each village. For example, assign 10 villages for tilapia, 10 for catfish, and 10 for layer hens. My point is, the supplies for MBG should not be sourced from outside the region or regency," Minister Yandri explained during an audience with the Vice Regent of Majene, Andi Ritamariani, at the Ministry’s office in South Jakarta, Thursday (April 9, 2026).
Furthermore, Minister Yandri expressed his hope that Majene could develop village potential to reach export markets. This strategy aligns with various development targets, including poverty alleviation and increasing the added value for village farmers.
However, he emphasized that villages should not only serve as raw material providers but also move toward export-standard processing that meets the expectations of international markets. This approach is expected to expand overseas marketing and drive village economic activity toward the development of local products.
"Or perhaps a 'Chocolate Village' we could create a chocolate-exporting village. We produce the raw materials and then determine the target market. Once that is achieved, Majene won't have to rely solely on regional transfers anymore, because all its villages will certainly be advanced," he concluded.
