JAKARTA – The Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (Mendes PDT), Yandri Susanto, attended a Joint Coordination Meeting regarding the Development of Disadvantaged, Frontier, and Outermost (3T) Regions at the Executive Office of the President (KSP) on Monday (June 8, 2026).
The meeting, chaired by the Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman, was also attended by the Deputy Minister of National Development Planning, Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyar.
Minister Yandri expressed his gratitude for the coordination meeting, as it provided an opportunity to present the core challenges faced by 3T regions.
Currently, there are 30 regencies classified as disadvantaged regions. Within these areas, approximately 5,000 villages still lack electricity and cellular networks, while also suffering from minimal health, education, and clean water facilities.
"Addressing this is critical as it directly aligns with the 6th Asta Cita (Aspiration), which emphasizes building from the village and from the bottom-up for economic equality and poverty eradication," Minister Yandri stated.
He added that resolving these deep-seated issues within President Prabowo Subianto's first term requires multi-stakeholder collaboration involving donor countries, the private sector, and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN).
This is particularly critical since these 30 regencies are the largest contributors to the nation's total of 9,300 disadvantaged and severely disadvantaged villages.
"Approximately 6,000 of those villages are located within these 30 regencies, accounting for nearly 75 percent of the total. Therefore, if we can untangle the problems in these areas, the issue of disadvantaged regions can, God willing, be fully resolved," Minister Yandri explained.
Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman noted that the coordination meeting aimed to give his office a direct, real-time understanding of the actual conditions in the 30 regencies within the 3T zones.
Dudung emphasized that as Indonesia approaches 80 years of independence, strategic and decisive measures must be taken to resolve lingering issues such as infrastructure deficiencies and inadequate educational and healthcare facilities.
"These are the systemic issues we must solve, and I will report these findings directly to the President," Chief of Staff Dudung stated.
Moving forward, regional heads from these areas will also be granted an opportunity to meet with President Prabowo to present their respective field reports, which will serve as direct input for the Head of State.
The meeting was also attended by senior officials from the Executive Office of the President and regency representatives from the 3T regions.
Accompanying Minister Yandri from the Ministry were Secretary-General Taufik Madjid, Director General of PDP Nugroho Setijo Nagoro, Director General of PEID Tabrani, and Director General of PPDT Samsul Widodo.
