Karawang – The Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions (Kemendes PDT) continues to accelerate its Thematic Village program, as it remains one of the ministry's top priorities.
Various thematic villages are being developed, ranging from Paddy Villages to Tilapia Fish Villages. One of the specific themes currently being boosted is the Sheep Village (Desa Domba).
To support this initiative, the Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, Yandri Susanto, has partnered with a prominent sheep farm, Kurma Adzwa Farm, led by Ikhsan Davit Wijaya.
On Sunday (Feb 15, 2026), Minister Yandri signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the farm, which is located in East Jomin Village, Kotabaru District, Karawang Regency.
The scope of the MoU between the Ministry and Kurma Adzwa Farm includes community empowerment for sheep farming development and enhancing human resource capacity in the livestock sector. Furthermore, the partnership aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of Village-Owned Enterprises (BUM Desa) and other economic institutions within the livestock industry.
Minister Yandri expressed his admiration for the farm, which also features integrated fish ponds.
"With this MoU, God willing, we will develop Sheep Villages similar to our other Thematic Villages," said Minister Yandri.
One of the primary reasons for developing Sheep Villages is the high demand for mutton and lamb, particularly concerning the Hajj pilgrimage cycles, such as Dam payments (religious fines) and other offerings. There is also significant demand during the Eid al-Adha holiday and for daily consumption.
"This is an excellent business opportunity. Therefore, I encourage the replication of this Sheep Village model in other villages across Indonesia," Minister Yandri added.
He also emphasized the necessity of building modern management systems for sheep farming, covering everything from feed production to distribution.
Following the signing, Minister Yandri personally inspected the Kurma Adzwa Farm facilities while receiving a briefing from Ikhsan.
Accompanying the Minister were the Secretary-General of the Ministry, Taufik Madjid; Director General of PEID, Tabrani; Head of BPI, Mulyadin Malik; Director General of PDP, Nugroho Setijo Nagoro; and Head of BPSDM, Agustomi Masik.
